Fall Classic Final Game Captures 51 Million Viewers Across the US, Canadian and Japanese Markets.

The nail-biting extended clash where the Los Angeles Dodgers defeat the Blue Jays 5-4 drew a total over 50 million watchers across the United States, Canadian, and Japanese markets. MLB reported this marks the most-watched World Series Game 7 after the 1991 edition showdown between the Minnesota Twins and Braves.

Broadcast Viewership Details

Last Saturday’s epic game secured 27.33M viewers on Fox channels, its Spanish-language channel and their streaming platforms. Per ratings data, it was the second most-watched broadcast of the previous week.

It additionally stands as the top-rated World Series matchup after the 2017 edition Game 7 involving the Los Angeles Dodgers and Houston Astros, which drew 29.07M. This marks a sixteen percent improvement compared to the previous finale between the Washington Nationals and Houston Astros, which attracted 23.19 million viewers.

In the weekly rankings, the sixth game placed 4th, the fourth game was seventh, the fifth game was 8th, and Game 3 finished in thirteenth place.

Global Viewership Numbers

In the Canadian market, the climactic game recorded 11.6M viewers on Sportsnet and the French-language TVA Sports. This was the highest-rated English-language program in the country since the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the final contest started at 9 p.m. local time, it drew 12 million viewers. This followed the previous Friday’s sixth game – in which Fall Classic MVP Yamamoto allowed a single run in six innings – recorded 13.1M viewers, making it the highest-rated Fall Classic matchup on a single network in the country.

Series Totals and Trends

The entire seven-match World Series averaged over 15.7 million audience members on Fox, a 2% increase from the previous year’s Dodgers versus Yankees series. This represents the first time after 2015 and 2016 that the World Series has seen viewership growth for two straight seasons.

Including the Game 1 telecast on the Univision network, the complete American average was 16.1M. The total Fall Classic viewership in the Japanese market was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in Canada.

The full playoffs on Fox, FS1 and FS2 drew 8.09 million watchers, an eight percent increase over last year and the network’s best playoff performance since the 2017 season.

MLB announced that the Fall Classic was broadcast in 203 nations and regions by 44 media partners in sixteen various tongues.
