The esteemed football figure has stated that he is avoiding a return to football management, noting that it would be tough to match the higher calling he encountered as the national team coach.

The former coach suggested his aim to dedicate his efforts toward working with young people and countering what he labeled a dominant downbeat story presently prevalent in the country.

Embracing Fresh Opportunities Away from Coaching

During a broadcast discussion, Southgate was prompted regarding talk linking him with open coaching positions in the Premier League and elsewhere.

“I’ve had one of the most incredible jobs in football which also had a higher purpose because it was my country,” he replied. “Recreating that unique role won’t be easy. With 37 years in football behind me, I’m excited to identify fresh ways to create impact.”

Commitment to Positive Examples

Ahead of the release of his forthcoming publication, his new work on leadership, Southgate stated that he is deeply committed about setting examples for young people, drawing on insights from his time as head coach of the national side between 2016 and 2024, as well as his experiences as a parent.

He feels that his experience managing the squad, during which the team transformed from being widely disliked to widely supported, holds general lessons.

“We had a huge disconnect with the public when we started,” he explained. “People saw us as high-ego players but we were able to turn that around. I saw the power that the team had to bring people together of every community.”

Raising Children and Influencing Youth

Drawing on his family life, he remarked: “Parents strive to offer their children a great beginning, but eventually, kids tune out. My household is no different, but I’m convinced this is a vital focus for society.”

He continued: “A downbeat tone surrounds the nation now, and it’s essential to provide hope and advice to the younger generation. While talent abounds, accessing suitable mentors and peer networks is crucial, since these factors heavily influence lifelong outcomes.”

Unity Over Division

He stressed that “there is more that unites us [in the UK] than divides us” but that the public discourse often centers on division.

“One can see why many feel disillusioned,” he commented. “Financial struggles affect numerous communities, fueling calls for transformation. Yet, I’ve observed the capacity to bring the nation together. During the pandemic, I witnessed neighbors helping each other—that’s when the UK excels, demonstrating strength and unity in adversity.”

Southgate’s new release, the book Dear England, is expected to provide further insights on management and public spirit inspired by his distinguished professional journey.
